How to use it

  1. Drop a PDF. The first page appears so you can see where things go.
  2. Click on the page where you want text, then type. Drag the dotted handle to move it. Change the font, size and color in the bar above.
  3. If the PDF has form fields, fill them in from the Form fields box under the page.
  4. Press Save PDF and download the result. You can keep editing and save again.

Good to know

  • Text you add is real PDF text that can be selected and searched, as long as it uses Western European letters.
  • Letters outside that set, such as Cyrillic, Greek or Chinese, are drawn as a sharp picture of the text instead. They look right but cannot be selected.
  • This tool adds new text. It cannot change or remove text that is already part of the page.
  • For forms with fields, "Make filled-in form fields permanent" turns them into plain text so nobody can change them later.
  • Use the arrow keys on the dotted handle to move text one point at a time. Hold Shift to move ten.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.

Questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The work happens inside your browser, on your own device, so your files never reach our server. The page does load ads from third parties, but they cannot see your files.

Can I edit the text that is already in the PDF?

No. This tool puts new text on top of the page. It cannot reflow or rewrite what is already there.

How do I fill in a form?

If the PDF has real form fields, they show up in the Form fields box and you can fill them in there. If it is only a picture of a form, click on the page and type over the blanks.

Which fonts can I use?

Helvetica, Times and Courier, each in regular and bold. They are built into every PDF viewer, so the file looks the same everywhere.

Will the text show on other devices?

Yes. The text is saved inside the PDF, so phones, browsers and PDF programs all show it in the same place.
